About this course

About this Course:

This course offers a broad practical curriculum underpinned by academic study, with the opportunity for you to influence the way you work. The main pathway is acting however, we do offer alternative modules for the musical theatre pathway.

You will gain an insight into the creation of new work, acting and performance in a range of styles from classical to contemporary using first class facilities and equipment. You will discover the theoretical and historical backdrop to theatre, acting and performance and will obtain the industry-desired skills and contacts.

You will work with professionals and highly-skilled staff, go on trips and take part in invaluable workshops, including Open Minds Theatre, RADA workshop, Boal Workshops, Crucible theatre visits and a short film school residential with media. ​

The in-house and touring performance projects have an excellent reputation and offer numerous opportunities for the application of theatre.

Modules Include: Year 1 -Approaches to Acting 1

-Acting with a Mask

-The Empty Space: (Devising Innovative Performance)

-Theatre in Education and Community Arts

-Preparation Process and Production: Making it Happen

-Historical Context of Performance

Musical Theatre pathway will do Singing and Movement for performers.

Year 2

-Approaches to Acting 2

-Site Specific Performance 1 and 2

-Performing Shakespeare

-Performance Study and Demonstration

-Stage to Screen

Musical Theatre will do Dance and Acting for Musical Theatre

Year 3

-Integrated Final Performance

-Creative Arts Research (Dissertation) (Written and Practical or just written)

-Personal and Professional Development- Industry Placement

Musical Theatre pathway will continue with a final Musical Theatre Performance

Progression:

  • Progression into acting, directing and arts related pathways, including stage management, script writing or working freelance in community or youth workshops.

  • Further study on a PGCE or continue your studies to achieve a Master’s degree.

    Entry Requirements:

  • 64 UCAS Points or the equivalent in A-Levels

  • A relevant Level 3 qualification

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above or equivalent

  • Students that haven't studied a drama-based subject will be accepted, if passion and ability are evident.
