About this course

One of only a few specialist art schools in the Russell Group, you’ll be inspired to create in our purpose built studios and workshops and learn with expert creative practitioners at Winchester School of Art (WSA), part our University of Southampton community and just one hour from London. You’ll have industry exposure through guest lectures, work on live briefs with companies, explore work placements and internships where graduates have gone on to set up their own design labels or work at prestigious brands across the globe including Selfridges, Saatchi & Saatchi, Alexander McQueen, Burberry, ASOS, Nike and Apple. You’ll be prepared for a wide range of creative careers where 93% of Arts graduates were in employment or further study 15 months after graduation (Graduate Outcomes 2020/2021, published in 2023).

On this BA (Hons) course, you’ll gain a fundamental understanding of the changing landscape of sustainable luxury while developing artisanship skills to design and create luxury textiles.

Exploring, printing, knitting and weaving to felting and stitching techniques, you’ll develop the knowledge and experience to affect change in the global textiles industry.

You’ll learn critical thinking and reflection methods which will inform your design, development and making skills. Envision a world where sustainable luxury textile practices, business strategies, consumer behaviour and marketing communications are reimagined.

Using new technologies, you’ll reinterpret traditional heritage craft practices, and find digital solutions to challenges around sustainable innovation, ethical manufacturing and product augmentation. You'll become a trailblazer, shaping the future of sustainability, luxury, and artisanship.

Throughout your degree, you'll have your own dedicated studio workstation with desk and display wall. You’ll also have access to specialist print, knit and weave workshop resources and computer-aided design (CAD) suites.
