Sport Business Management

Our BSc (Hons) Sport Business Management degree is for those who are passionate about sport and want to develop the experience, management and leadership skills required for career success in this expanding and varied sector. The public, commercial and not-for-profit sports sector is fast-moving and this course reflects its diversity, focusing on developing skills for employability. The first year will introduce the fundamentals of sports business as well as community sports provision. The focus on the application of business principles in sport, covering areas such as management, leadership, marketing, governance and finance. It will combine practical experience with academic study, equipped with a broad understanding of the international and commercial aspects of the business of sport.

The programme includes field trips that have included London Olympic Park and work on challenges and projects with our partners such as Plymouth Raiders, Plymouth Patriots and Plymouth Argyle FC.

A placement will provide valuable professional experience, to enhance student CV and provide them with a network of industry contacts. We have well-established partnerships with a diverse range of organisations, including professional and amature sports clubs, leisure companies, local authorities and charitable organisations.

Our BSc (Hons) Sport Business Management is unique in being the only degree in the country to have dual industry accreditation and endorsement from both the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

As a highly transferable degree, graduates will have the option to move into a variety of careers. All organisations require business management and leadership skills, whether in the sporting industry or as part of the wider business community. Career options include sports agency, marketing in business, business development, as well as sports management and administration roles. Postgraduate study and graduate management training schemes are also viable options.
