Spanish and Latin

The four-year BA Spanish and Latin is a joint honours programme split equally between your two chosen subjects. The language part of your degree is taught in the School of European Languages, Culture and Society where will take modules not only in language (speaking, listening, reading, writing and translation) but also in cultural topics including literature, history, film, linguistics, politics and other relevant field designed to complement your language learning. With a wide variety of modules on offer, you will be able to tailor your degree to your areas of interest. Your third year is a Year Abroad, spent in a country where your language is spoken.

Studying Spanish at UCL as part of the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Department combines the study of Spanish language and its varieties, with modules in the literature, film, history and cultures of Spain and Latin America, from the early modern period to the present day. For the Year Abroad we have links with leading universities in Spain and Latin America.

Studying Latin will allow you to improve on your A-level Latin and further your study of the language, its culture with the main emphasis being on the study of Latin in the original language with a wide choice of areas of study to choose from; from Roman Love Poetry to Ancient Religions.
