There are more uniformed public services than you might think, including the Armed Services (Army, Navy and Air Force), HM Customs and Excise, police, fire service, security services, prison service, ambulance service, rescue services, the UK Border Agency and the coast guard.

Most of the uniformed services require skills and competence in:

    You will explore the theory behind criminology, crime reduction and community safety, emergency planning, substance misuse culture, and justice and punishment. You will also learn about managing public sector finance, the psychology of human behaviour, and personal and professional development.

    The course provides education and training for a range of careers in public services, including, for example, local government, Civil Service, public administration, the armed forces, police force, fire and rescue services, ambulance (not paramedic), prison service and the charity and voluntary sector.
