About this course
Why choose this course?
With mental health at the forefront of society, explore the challenges facing research and practice in the sector, and the psychological approaches to improving public wellbeing. Delve into a breadth of topics from social, developmental, cognitive and biological psychology, building a foundation of knowledge and insights into individual differences. You will learn about the appropriate methods for clients to talk about experiences and personal concerns, both from an emotional and psychological perspective.
Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)*, our contemporary programme explores the mind, brain, and behaviour through the investigation of psychological theories that underpin cognition, individual differences and social development. Examine various theoretical approaches within counselling, from Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy to other broad holistic approaches to wellbeing, with a focus on the person-centred approach. You will develop professional practitioner skills around compassion, care, active listening, and interpersonal communication.
Our programme equips you with essential skills in both quantitative and qualitative research, ensuring a thorough understanding of diverse psychological methodologies. You will have access to a range of facilities and equipment, including virtual reality headsets, brain stimulation devices, and our state-of-the-art Central Science Laboratories.
Please note: this is not a practitioner training programme and does not qualify you to work with clients. If you wish to become a qualified counsellor, psychotherapist or counselling psychologist in the future this programme can lead on to these courses of study.
*subject to passing your final year project and achieving a minimum 2:2 degree award
