About this course

The interrelated subjects of Psychology and Criminology (CM89) are combined so that you can benefit from the theoretical perspectives of crime with sociology, philosophy and psychology in mind. You will study the brain, the mind and behaviour to discover the reasons why people commit crime and the social-cultural repercussions of crime. In studying Psychology and Criminology you will acquire a wide range of the skills and knowledge that employers are increasingly seeking.

A degree in Psychology and Criminology will prepare you for a range of careers, and access to wide range of further training opportunities, including: Clinical, Educational, Occupational, Sports and Exercise Psychology, Psychotherapy and Counselling, Social Work, Health Care, Human Resources, Careers Advisory Service, Marketing, Publishing, Advertising.

During your time with us you will have the opportunity to get the job experience within the institutions such as like County Council, and NHS Wales as a part of your third year module ‘Employability Skills for Professionals, which is an amazing opportunity to learn more about the industry sector and network with the potential future employers.

You will have an opportunity to undertake a work placement or internship through the AberForward scheme, which is a paid internship within Aberystwyth University. As well as take a Year in Employment (YES) placement, which is a year-long paid internship within the external industries between your second and third year. We have a dedicated team within the Career Department to advice and help you during both your application period and during your placement.
