Our course at University College Birmingham is led by prosthetics experts who have worked on famous productions including Game of Thrones, Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Who. Learning from the pros, you will master your technical skills in our cutting-edge prosthetics suite, including an editorial studio to photograph and screen test work for your portfolio. You will also learn how to deal with complex issues behind the scenes, including how to change and refine designs as a production progresses.
To give you the advantage in what is predominantly a freelance-driven industry, our prosthetics master’s course features short-term voluntary placements to give you valuable real-world experience. In addition, you will learn how to answer the most diverse commercial briefs and build on your entrepreneurial skills, ensuring you are ready to go out and make your mark.

FACILITIES University College Birmingham hosts purpose-built prosthetics workshops equipped for processes ranging from sculpting and fibreglass resin mould-making to casting of silicone and foam latex prosthetic pieces. We also have a latex mixing room, dust room and state-of-the-art extraction, giving you a professional and safe environment to develop your technical skills.
If you're looking to work in the editorial fashion sector, the suite includes an editorial studio where you can learn how to perfect your hair and make-up work for the camera and how to light, compose and take professional studio shots.
PLACEMENTS Our course features a voluntary work placement, and we will work alongside employers to enable you to form connections for placement at the end of your first year. You will have developed the skills, confidence and resilience required to take on industry-led work opportunities. It should be noted that placement opportunities are quite often at short notice and require travel, so it will be crucial to prepare for this.
