About this course

A recent study by the Youth Sports Trust found that two-thirds of secondary school PE students do not enjoy (competitive) PE. Furthermore, only 8% of girls and 16% of boys are meeting daily recommended activity levels. We need you to help change this!

This programme is specifically designed to provide you with the practical, professional and academic skills that are needed to prepare you for a successful career as a secondary school PE teacher. You will have the flexibility to choose modules that suit your interests and allow you to specialise in a field of your choice.

You will spend a large proportion of your time in practical sessions and on teaching placements. This course takes a ‘hands on’ approach so you can learn by doing.

Training high quality secondary PE teachers has been at the heart of the University of Chichester for generations; it is what we do! This course will allow you to access teacher training via our own PGCE or by school based schemes.

On this course you will: Be fully prepared for a career within secondary education or coaching with children of a secondary school age. Gain a thorough understanding of the importance of physical education in the development of the whole person; pedagogical practice, curriculum and issues of professional practice. Apply theory to practice through our dedicated work placement schemes. Learn from experienced professionals who will look to support you through your degree.
