About this course

Is there a god? What is morality? What does it mean to be human? On this joint BA Philosophy and English degree you’ll examine concepts like these from philosophical and literary perspectives. You’ll broaden your knowledge and understanding with a placement year at a university abroad

Our year abroad courses give undergraduates the opportunity to study for an additional academic year at a university in another part of the world. Destinations include Europe, Asia and North America.

You'll explore philosophy and literature through diverse times and places, from Viking to Victorian eras and from Eastern to African settings. You'll learn about philosophical questions such as ethics, reason and responsibility, and explore contested narratives such as race and culture in American literature.

Our digital humanities facilities will allow you to study and research through cutting-edge technology, such as virtual reality, 3D scanners and printers, and a 360 degree fully immersive audiovisual centre. Supported by an expert team, these technologies will enable you to start making and exploring in new and immersive ways.
