About this course

About the course

Ideas, debates and thought-provoking questions – philosophy is forever challenging our assumptions about the world.

At Sussex, you combine the traditional with the alternative. You’ll explore interesting and unexpected approaches to the fundamental problems of philosophy. You’ll have the opportunity to study the two dominant traditions:

  • analytic philosophy

  • continental philosophy.

During your degree, you can choose to approach philosophical questions in different ways, for example by exploring non-Western and feminist philosophy. From law to modern languages, you take electives from other subjects to open your mind to other disciplines and tailor your degree to your interests.

In the School of Media, Arts and Humanities, you’ll become part of a friendly community of students and expert academics. You’ll also have the opportunity to join the University’s lively Philosophy Society.

When you graduate, you’ll be able to reflect critically, analyse texts, produce compelling arguments and think fast. You’ll have the skills for a range of careers. This might include teaching, journalism, management, marketing and communication.
