Work towards a significant independent research project

We offer a range of opportunities and ways of studying (full-time, & part-time) and inter-disciplinary research (such as dance science) can also be accommodated. You will be able to undertake a supervised project across a range of research themes, including:

Diversity and Equality in Sport Researchers in this theme explore how inclusivity and diversity can be achieved in and through sport. The principle focus is gender equity in sports leadership and other research projects include the science of women’s football and children’s experiences of health and wellbeing.

Enhancing Sport Performance Researchers in this theme deliver research and consultancy to athletes, coaches, officials, sporting organisations and schools aimed at enhancing the performance, development and wellbeing of coaches, athletes and teachers.

Health and Wellbeing Sport and physical activity have been shown to have enormous benefits for our physical and mental wellbeing. Researchers in this theme develop understanding of the impacts of physical activity and how to promote it in a wide range of settings and populations.

Nutritional Supplementation Research activity in this theme revolves around examining the physical, cognitive and health benefits of nutritional strategies and supplements.

Occupational Performance Through the Institute’s Occupational Performance Research Group (OPRG), researchers deliver multidisciplinary research and consultancy to enhance the selection, performance, protection and health of personnel working within physically demanding occupations, such as the military, emergency services and industry.

Optimising Practice in PE Sport and physical activity have long been considered to be a powerful factor in promoting childhood health and wellbeing. Our researchers are interested in how and when physical activity, sport and physical education experiences can promote such well-being changes and how we can better promote health and well-being through physical activity.
