About this course

Are you fascinated by high-speed racing cars and want to work in the motorsport engineering industry? Our motorsport engineering degree offers a solid foundation in mechanical engineering and the latest motorsport technologies. This programme focuses on solving real-world engineering problems and helps you become a skilled design engineer.

The degree centres around high-performance racing vehicles, teaching you about their ride and handling requirements as well as powertrain performance and efficiency. You’ll learn to use industry-standard tools like Computer-Aided Design, Data Acquisition, and advanced simulation software. These tools include Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), essential for investigating and perfecting vehicle designs.

You will explore specialist areas such as advanced engine design, powertrain design, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, and electrical control. Independent and group projects will help you deepen your knowledge in these areas. These projects provide valuable practical experience, preparing you for a career in the automotive and motorsport sectors.

Environmental considerations are a key part of our modules, ensuring that you learn about sustainable design and technology. This knowledge opens a wide range of employment opportunities. Additionally, you can take part in extracurricular activities that allow you to apply your classroom knowledge to real-life motorsport applications.

The accredited BEng (Hons) will meet, in part, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer and Students will need to complete an approved format of further learning pursuant to the requirements of UK-SPEC.
