About this course

This course will now start in September of each year and will no longer have a January intake. The course is a mix of theory and practice approximately 50% of each. While in practice students work closely with their midwifery mentors who support them during both hospital and community practice experiences. Students learn in small groups which provide a good support network. University of Suffolk is able to provide a very experienced teaching and practice team to support students in their learning and development.

On completion successful students will be awarded a BSc (Hons) in Midwifery and are also able to register as a Midwife (RM) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and therefore practice as a midwife anywhere in the UK.

Employment within the trust where students have their practice is not guaranteed students often find employment as a midwife in the partner trusts or elsewhere in the NHS. Further opportunities exist to practice anywhere within the UK or European Union as a midwife. There are also numerous opportunities to work as a midwife in other countries where the UK qualification is recognised.
