About this course

Our students are engaged in the exploration and analysis of mediated culture. From Film and TV to art and advertising, you will explore the central role that media and popular culture occupies in contemporary society. Through analysis and graduates will be attractive to a range of employers within the media, entertainment, creative, cultural and communications industries. The course has work related modules, special employability and enterprise events and our own e-magazine NEUTRAL which you will be invited to contribute to. There are also a range of visiting speakers who work within the Media who will provide advice and guidance as well as a number of field trips including an international excursion. This is a programme that will train you not only to analyse the media, but creatively engage with it in a variety of ways - from creative writing to electronic imaging to creative interaction, you will be encouraged to examine the ways in which the media shapes our lives – and the ways in which we can shape the media.

This route offers you a four year (full-time) degree course, which will include opportunities for you to engage with the subject area of your choice, to select from a range of subjects to broaden your knowledge and understanding, and will provide structured study skills support as you build your confidence to study at degree level. Working with tutors from across Humanities and Social Sciences, you will have the opportunity to explore a variety of academic disciplines, encountering a wide range of subjects and ideas. You will engage in a range of teaching and learning activities, including lectures, seminars, group work, workshops and online learning. Passing your first year guarantees progression onto any of our undergraduate degrees offered with an integrated Foundation Year.
