About this course

BA (Hons) Marketing with Foundation Year

This degree offers you the chance to strengthen your skills, knowledge and confidence before you advance to stage one of your honours degree.

Why choose this course? This degree is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). You'll begin by covering all aspects of marketing to find out where your passions and talents lie. Then, you can continue on a general Marketing pathway with plenty of optional modules, or choose a more specialist pathway in Digital Marketing or PR and Advertising.

Helping you to achieve more Including a foundation year as part of your four-year study programme will give you a head start in your academic and professional life. The foundation year offers the chance to strengthen your skills, knowledge and confidence – with extensive support from our expert staff – before you advance to stage one of your honours degree. It could also be beneficial if you are planning a career change and want to get to grips with aspects of subjects which are new to you. Our degrees with a foundation year are continuous, meaning that you won’t need to apply again once you have successfully completed the first year.

How you will learn Our teaching methods will be varied, interactive and engaging. You’ll take part in lectures and seminars, individual and group-based practical assignments, visits to trade fairs, exhibitions and companies, with the opportunity to go on a placement or internship.

Opportunities and experiences We’ll take you beyond the classroom, giving you opportunities to tackle real marketing projects for employers and undertake placements, internships, or even a semester of studying abroad. You’ll also hear from interesting guest speakers and we’ll draw on fascinating real world case studies to bring marketing concepts and principles to life.

Work placements and internships We'll encourage and support you to take work placements and internships. In between your second and third year, you can take an optional placement year or a summer internship. This is a valuable opportunity to gain experience and develop your practical skills, network and build your professional profile.

Careers and employability Marketing is now such a broad industry with a wide range of specialist roles, so these pathways enable you to build more in-depth skills in the particular area that interests you. Whichever pathway you choose, you will still gain a solid grounding in all of the key marketing disciplines, so you won't be closing any doors.
