About this course

This pathway combines what you learn in the Management course with the skills and concepts of Political Management.

The course covers how to manage campaigns, political parties, governments, and parliaments.

Alongside core skills in management, you'll learn about areas like:

  • political planning and organisation

  • human resource management and leadership in government

    This course helps you understand the challenges of management in politics. You will also consider its effects on society and democracy.

    You will gain skills and understanding from both MSc Management, and the specialist Political Management modules.

    This course positions you to pursue careers in areas like:

  • political organisations and political parties

  • campaign teams

  • parliaments

  • local government departments

  • political offices

  • external contractors in market research

  • communication consultancies who carry out work for the political organisations

  • business government relations

    You will take two core modules to learn concepts and applications of management in a political setting.

    You can then choose to add two more options from business and politics. These are topics such as:

  • place and nation branding

  • brand management

  • green politics

  • public policy

    You will then do four management modules. This will be on topics such as people and organisational management. These extend your awareness and knowledge of management concepts that apply to politics and government.

    Finally you will complete a Master's summer project in Applied Political Management.

    This unique UK pathway offers a chance to learn from global experts in Political Management and Marketing. Through the year, you will participate in organised informal talks with political professionals. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Scottish and UK Parliaments, and join discussions on election debates.
