About this course
This course is designed to develop your skills in advocacy, legal drafting, and legal research, allowing you to develop competences which are required to be a solicitor. You’ll also gain a host of transferrable skills, such as how to construct an argument, how to communicate with clients, attention to detail, and the ability to work on your own and as part of a team.
Why Study Law and Practice LLB(Hons) at University of Huddersfield? Our flexible course structures mean that you can wait until the end of Year 2 to decide whether you want to take an academic route and enroll onto our LLB (Hons) Law or one of our practice-focused courses, i.e., Law and Practice or Master’s in Law and Practice.
Employability skills are embedded within our curriculum too. Plus, a range of extracurricular activities are on offer. You can benefit from hands-on experience at the Legal Advice Centre as well.
You’ll participate in national and international Moot competitions, a professional mentoring scheme, the Law School challenge and a law Careers Fair, developing both legal and employability skills as well as networking for future careers.
In addition to specialised legal databases (i.e., Westlaw, Lexis Library) and journals (via Heinonline, Jstor), you’ll have access to over 200 law eBooks (textbooks) via Law Trove. These are all included in your course fees.
You’ll be taught my both practitioners and legal academics who bring their industry and research expertise into classroom teaching.
Plus, 91 per cent of graduates from this subject are in work and/or further study 15 months after graduating (HESA Graduate Outcomes 19/20, UK domiciled graduates).
Throughout the course, you’ll also take a variety of option modules to help you find your law area of interest, as well as access our purpose-built mock courtroom, which simulates a real-life, legal environment and will help you hone your skills.
Away from campus, you’ll gain relevant real-world experience. After the second year of the course, you’ll put your knowledge and skills to the test in an optional 48-week work placement in your area of interest, in the UK or abroad.
This course will prepare you for a variety of exciting careers in a range of fields in the industry. As you’ll develop competences that are required to be a solicitor, you may find career opportunities as a solicitor, paralegal, legal assistant, legal advisor, and legal executive. The transferrable skills you’ll develop will further open opportunities in both public and private sectors graduate level jobs.
