About this course

Do you ask questions across disciplinary boundaries? Are you open to collaboration with the ambition and determination to tackle real-world problems? On our MRes you'll conduct your own interdisciplinary research and study taught modules across the University.

Whether you’re a fresh graduate, a returning researcher or coming from industry, this MRes will take your academic journey beyond disciplinary borders.

At Birmingham, we place your ability to think, question and explore at the heart of the course. The programme is centred around your research topic.

You’ll be supported by a team of supervisors, including an academic from Liberal Arts and Sciences and a subject specialist supervisor. The supervisor from Liberal Arts and Sciences will guide the interdisciplinary side of your research while your subject specialist supervisor will help you develop your research and your knowledge of your chosen discipline.

What's more, the MRes contains taught modules where you'll expand your knowledge of critical theory and develop your ability to self-reflect, critique and analyse research. Our students are innovative thinkers and future research leaders in academia, policy, and industry.
