You’ll be preparing for a range of careers in leading global organisations.
How you learn
All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on the application of knowledge. You’ll engage with the Hallam community and beyond, collaborating with experts in your areas of interest, and being challenged to think in new ways – all in a supportive environment in which you can thrive.
This course builds your fundamental knowledge by learning how an organisation structures itself around functional areas and digital technologies. You’ll develop project management skills – from different planning frameworks like Agile and SCRUM, to the kinds of enterprise system projects they’re most suited to. You’ll also develop your professional responsibility and understanding of accountability in IT projects.
We’ll explore interactive case studies in different modules, critically evaluating company performance from various theoretical levels of analysis, accompanied by innovative methodologies.
Your dissertation project gives you an opportunity to further tailor your course by specialising in a particular area of the discipline, supported by a supervisor. In preparation you’ll also develop your research, academic writing and business reporting skills.
You learn through:
Work Experience This course also has a work experience route that offers a placement in industry of up to 12 months, where you’ll apply academic theory and your skills in a real-world setting. This hands-on experience will enhance your professional development and help you to make informed career choices after graduation. We’ll support you to source a placement that is relevant to your course. Throughout your placement, you’ll be supported to reflect on your experience and contribution to the organisation you work for. You'll also share your progress and achievements with your Placement Academic Supervisor as part of your final assessment.
You will have the opportunity to engage in work placements, allowing them to apply knowledge to real industry settings in IT and business analysist roles, with a focus on IT consultancy and IT project management. This hands-on experience fosters a deeper understanding of industry practices and enhances problem-solving abilities in practical contexts.
In addition, the transformative impact that a placement can have on personal and professional development can be further enhanced through the completion of Sheffield Hallam’s Applied Professional Diploma. The Applied Professional Diploma is a qualification that demonstrates the learning you have gained from the placement, and it is undertaken while on placement not during the normal academic class time.
