About this course

Classics is the study of languages, literature, history, art, and archaeology of ancient civilisations, thus making it a perfect compliment to history.

Knowledge and study of the ancient world was vitally important in later periods of history.

Knowledge of the classical world is an important tool for historians of all periods, places, and themes.

History

We offer an exceptionally wide range of courses, covering:

* historical periods from the early Middle Ages to the contemporary world

* geographical regions including Britain and Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas

Our history courses also cover a wide variety of approaches to the past, including:

* political history

* cultural history

* social history

* economic history

* intellectual history

* gender history

* global and transnational history

Classics

On the classics side of the programme, you will be able to study Latin language and literature or Greek language and literature.

Or you can choose to study one or more of:

* ancient history

* classical art and archaeology

* classical literature in translation
