About this course

Throughout this one day a week programme, you will gain a solid understanding about the diverse contexts of health and social care professions, and the programme also incorporates the National Minimum Training Standards for Adult Social Care Workers in England (Skills for Care 2013).

Entry Requirements – A BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care (MMM grade), or similar qualification e.g. A Levels or Access to Higher Education (equivalent to 96 UCAS Tariff points) – You must be employed or doing voluntary work in a Health and Social Care setting for a minimum of 12 hours per week. You should have the support of your employer or voluntary setting (unless self-employed) and have a satisfactory enhanced DBS check – Two GCSEs at grade 4 or above, which should include English Language. A written task for applicants without evidence of GCSE qualifications can be undertaken

    Teaching and Learning The course is delivered partly through taught sessions and partly through employer-supported work-based learning. You will be taught in small groups and there is individual tutorial support to assist with the planning and checking of coursework.

    Assessment You will be assessed using a variety of methods, including essays, case studies, reports, observations, individual and group presentations and a dissertation proposal.

    Progression The FdA in Health and Social Care will enable you to work at a higher/management level within the health and social care sector, and/or top up to the one year BA (Hons) in Adult Social Care degree programme here at HSDC, or alternative BA (Hons) degree programme at a university.

    About Us Our campus has a range of modern facilities to enhance students learning experience including music recording studios, gym facilities, a nursery, to our own working restaurant and beauty salon and much more. There are frequent buses from the surrounding areas and local train stations in Havant and Cosham. Located off Junction 4 of the A3(M), the College has free onsite parking.
