About this course

Course Overview This programme is studio led and provides an understanding of the theory, skills and professional practice required to work in the field of graphic design. It combines practical skills, including the use of Adobe design packages, with essential theory such as the development of graphic design from its roots to the latest street and urban art, including tattoo design. You will be given time and guidance to develop your own work and areas of interest, and you will be encouraged to develop your own individual ideas-based portfolio, which could include broad-based graphic design or more specific illustration, typography or digital media pathways.

Academic staff are practicing artists and designers with national and international profiles. Their knowledge and experience is utilised to teach and demonstrate a number of specialisms.

All modules involve an element of contextual study and encourage research, reflection and analysis. Alongside core studies, you are encouraged to engage with the local community, and you are provided with opportunities for live briefs and exhibitions, ensuring that you gain valuable experience in working with clients.

Entry Requirements An appropriate BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design; or an appropriate Access to HE qualification; or a BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies. Applicants without formal qualifications or with appropriate work experience are welcome to apply. This will be by way of a formal interview, and you will be expected to bring a portfolio of work that reflects your relationship to the subject.

Assessment Assessment is through assignments and work submitted, which is assessed each semester, with an external examiner visit at the end of the academic year.

In the coming months before commencing your studies please contact the Programme Leaders (or this can be programme support teams etc) if we can offer any further guidance before joining us.
