About this course

Discover planet Earth: from natural hazards to natural resources, from the history of life to the history of the planet itself. You don’t need to have studied geology before and this programme can open the door to a career as a professional geologist in industries such as petroleum, mineral resources, engineering geology and environmental assessment. You will gain a thorough and highly practical training in modern geology, with a strong emphasis on fieldwork. Your training will cover core topics including sedimentology, stratigraphy, fossils, volcanoes, minerals, metamorphism, structural geology, geological maps and plate tectonics, as well as comprehensive training in field geology, IT and communication skills. This degree is accredited by the Geological Society of London, satisfying the requirements of Fellowship and Chartered Geologist status.

This programme is available with either a Year in China or a Year Abroad. The Year in China offers undergraduate students the opportunity to spend one year at our joint venture, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), following XJTLU's BA China Studies degree classes. XJTLU is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou. The Year Abroad offers students the opportunity to spend a full academic year studying at one of our partner universities around the world, following a mixture of culture and/or discipline-related modules. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in China or a Year Abroad you will have the opportunity to apply after you arrive at Liverpool.
