About this course
Our reputation is for world-leading research centered around 3 key areas:
• Environmental Futures (with specific foci on water security, climate change, and biophysical responses to environmental change). • Social Futures (with specific foci on socio-spatial inequalities, safety and security, and the creation of just societies and spaces). • Geographic Information Science (GISci) and Digital Geographies (through the use of GIS, satellite remote sensing, and environmental modelling).
Our current research topics include:
• Cultural geography – e.g. tourism, heritage • Ecosystems and ecology– e.g. tropical forest ecology, carbon sequestration and storage, ecosystem services • Geohazards and risk – e.g. tsunami, landslides, floods • Health, disability and wellbeing – e.g. social care and support, social exclusion/inclusion • Hydrology and geomorphology – e.g. water quality, glaciology, hydrometry, water security • Policing and security – e.g. community policing, surveillance, human trafficking • Livelihoods and migration– e.g. displaced communities, children and youth, the Global South • Remote sensing and GIS – e.g. photogrammetry, satellite remote sensing, spatial modelling
