About this course

Analyse and understand major challenges facing the world, and develop creative skills in problem-solving, presentation, and communication.

You will focus on topical and relevant issues such as climate change, pollution of land and water and the management of natural resources.

In Environmental Science, you will gain the knowledge and skills to help build a cleaner future and address the large-scale challenges facing human existence on Earth.

In Geography you will study both social and physical sciences across three broad themes: creating just communities and places, shaping environmental futures, and geospatial and digital methods.

You will also have the opportunity to go on field trips and to work with partner organisations to help them solve problems that they are currently facing.

Our course covers areas including:

  • hydrology

  • remote sensing

  • geology

  • geomorphology

  • oceanography and physics

  • environmental planning and management

  • life sciences including chemistry and biology

We have our own teaching spaces, laboratory, field equipment pool and specialist software like GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and R-statistics to support your learning.

The size of our Geography department means that we can get to know you personally and offer a friendly and supportive learning experience. You can contact any member of staff to ask for help.

The student-led Geography and Environmental Society also has a programme of activities to help you become part of our community.
