    WHY STUDY THIS COURSE?

The UK games sector is the largest in Europe, and the sector is rapidly growing to be a highly skills-based industry seeking graduate employment. A typical games studio will have 80% of staff qualified to degree level or above, and specific skills are needed to excel in this field.

On this course, not only will you have the opportunity to design games for the wider games industry, but, with our partnership with the British Esports Federation and its network, you can focus part of your course in the design and development of esports games. We will prepare you with the competencies needed to adapt and thrive in life’s continuously changing environments, employment, and an increasingly diverse global society.

You will be able to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of games 3D asset workflows in multiple areas of games art, as well as developing industry level competencies in games documentation and project management skills.

The Foundation Year (Year 0) provides an alternative route for those unable to meet the traditional entry requirements for a three-year degree or are returning to education later in life.

You will study three main areas in Year 1: 3D Modelling, Art visualisation and Games Production. This will give you the ability to appreciate the fundamental workflows games art in a production setting.

The main feature Year 2 is that you will gain experience as a part of a Junior Games Development team through the appropriate modules. In these units you will work in a multidisciplinary team alongside the Games Design and Games Development Students as the junior games artist to produce a game. You will work under a senior games artist, who will be a Level 6 student studying the Senior Games Development units. You will also study supporting units such as 3D Vehicle and Character modelling which further your competencies in games art.

The main feature of Year 3 is your Final Year Project, as this will allow you to demonstrate the area you have most passion for and to take this to a deeper level of knowledge and understanding. This year will also challenge and focus on your leadership skills as you act as senior games artists. In these units you will work in a multidisciplinary team alongside the Games Design and Games Development Students as the senior games artist to produce a game as well as having responsibility for the junior artists in that team.
