About this course
Through intensive language study, including a year abroad, you will have the opportunity to acquire advanced spoken and written skills in both French and Italian. No previous knowledge of Italian is needed.
In addition to your language classes, you will explore aspects of French-speaking (francophone) and Italian culture from the Middle Ages to the 21st century.
Our courses cover literature, art and cinema, political history, social movements and philosophical ideas.
Why Edinburgh?
As a world-leading festival and capital city, Edinburgh is a fantastic place to study languages in their cultural context.
We are unique in Scotland in offering students a full academic year abroad within the four-year honours programme, regardless of whether you spend the year studying or working.
Our programme is flexible. In Years 1 and 2, as well as your core subjects, you will choose option courses from a wide range of disciplines. You will then specialise as you progress through your honours years.
When you graduate, you will have the combination of broad cultural education in the arts and humanities, and specialist knowledge of two modern languages, valued by employers worldwide.
