The course is delivered full time over one year or part time over two years with progression to the HND year two (top-up) course to achieve the full HND qualification.

Developing Fine Art skills
Students will gain a wide range of Fine Art knowledge linked to practical skills and through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop transferable skills.

The course is skills based and validated by Pearson, Edexcel, embracing a broad range of Fine Art activities. It focuses on a broad range of Fine Art practice and skills that are required to work in the art and design industry. Academic staff are practicing artists with national and international profiles. Units are devised to enable the development of appropriate skills, nurturing an underpinning framework for diverse approaches, which are process-led. These can include experimental methods of drawing, painting, sculpture and digital media.

During each year of their studies, students will be given the opportunity to exhibit work providing an excellent platform for their creativity, which can be listed on students’ CVs.

Assessment methods
Assessment is through assignments and work submitted, which is assessed at the end of each project. An assignment may take a variety of forms, including practical and written. Units are devised to enable the development of appropriate skills, nurturing an underpinning framework for diverse approaches, which are process-led. These can include experimental methods of drawing, painting, sculpture and digital media.

Modules
The HNC Level 4 modules in year 1 lay the foundation of learning by providing a broad introduction to Fine Art. This develops and strengthens core skills while preparing students for specialist subjects at Level 5 or to enter employment with the qualities necessary for job roles that require some personal responsibility.
Students will gain a wide range of Fine Art knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace. By the end of (HNC) Level 4, students will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of Fine Art. They will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as in general skills and qualities relevant to key areas of Fine Art.
