About this course

BA (Hons) Fine Art and Contemporary Arts Practice (Top-up) (level 6) is a 1-year course awarded by the University of Gloucestershire, based at Bristol School of Art in the heart of Bristol. You will join this course from our Foundation Degree in Fine Art or with another level 5 qualification in Fine Art (or other relevant practical art subject) from another institution.

The aim of this programme is to support you in finding your individual voice as artist, maker or creative practitioner and providing the studio experience, practical skills, contextual knowledge and professional practice to prepare you for a career in the creative sector. The programme is built around studio practice and full-time students have dedicated studio space. Delivery takes place in form of lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops. Scheduled visits to galleries and exhibitions, a varied programme of Visiting Lecturers and the opportunity to exhibit at the Bristol School of Art degree show will make this an unforgettable experience.

You will write a dissertation after focused critical research into a key question of interest to you, supported by critical study skills sessions and supervisory tutorials. The course is assessed by coursework (professional practice documentation and dissertation) and practical portfolios, including exhibiting resolved work.
