About this course

The BSc (Hons) Film Production (Top-Up) degree is tailored for students who have completed a foundation degree, HND or equivalent qualification and are ready to advance their skills and knowledge to honours level. This course focuses on the technical, creative, and professional aspects of filmmaking, preparing students for careers in the dynamic and fast-evolving film industry.

Through practical training and critical exploration, students will develop expertise in key areas such as: ● Cinematography: Enhancing techniques in camera operation, lighting, and visual storytelling to produce high-quality visuals. ● Directing and production: Building leadership and organizational skills to oversee all aspects of film projects, from concept to final cut. ● Post-production: Mastering advanced editing, color grading, sound design, and visual effects to deliver professional-quality films. ● Screenwriting and storytelling: Crafting compelling narratives and scripts that resonate with diverse audiences. ● Industry-standard tools: Gaining proficiency with professional software and equipment used in modern film production workflows. ● Independent filmmaking: Developing an individual capstone project that showcases creative and technical excellence.

The course emphasizes collaboration and innovation, encouraging students to work on real-world projects and connect with industry professionals. Students will graduate with a portfolio that demonstrates their creative vision and technical skills, positioning them for success in a competitive industry. Graduates of the BSc (Hons) Film Production (Top-Up) are equipped to pursue careers in directing, cinematography, editing, producing, or screenwriting. They are also prepared for entrepreneurial ventures, freelance work, or further study, with the skills to excel in an ever-changing film production landscape.

After the Top-Up, students will be able to progress into Masters degrees in Game/Film or employment in a range of job roles including games developer, 3D modeller, games programmer, level designer, sounds designer (games) and script writer, video editor, runner, lighting technician, sound technician (film).
