About this course

Designed by experienced academics who’ve worked across key roles in a wide variety of industries, our Business and Law Foundation Year is designed to build your confidence, develop your capabilities and ensure you’re future-ready and ready for the competitive global marketplace.

From core subjects such as business, law, finance, marketing, enterprise, personal development and projects in the community, you’ll gain a solid introduction to the foundations of business and law, study contemporary business challenges, identify future trends and focus on the areas and industries which matter to you before progressing on to the full degree.

Our BA (Hons) Event Management degree will provide you with first-hand knowledge of the thriving and exciting global events industry, helping you to build your practical experience to support your career progression. You'll learn how to create and manage successful events that can contribute positively to social and economic development, building your confidence throughout the three years as you progress from working at events to eventually managing and producing them.

You'll gain the essential skills needed for a wide range of career destinations, including the management of festivals, trade shows, civic events, sporting spectacles, weddings, and conferences.

You'll learn from a team of leading academics and practitioners with strong experience in the event sector and strong industry links to regional, national and international events. You can also benefit from a mentoring programme with course graduates, who now work in various roles across the industry.

There are many opportunities to gain experience beyond the course, such as attending guest lectures, participating in University events, and taking advantage of multiple work experience opportunities. And you'll be studying in the heart of Southampton, a key events hub on England’s south coast.

The placement year will allow you to put what what you've learned in your first and second years into practice in the workplace, while gaining valuable real-world work experience before you graduate.
