ENGLISH LANGUAGE & LINGUISTICS:English language and linguistics combines the study of the structure and meaning of the English language, past and present, to see what all this tells us about our culture, our society and ourselves. Over 50 years, we created the world-leading Historical Thesaurus of English, a unique resource charting the semantic development of the huge and varied vocabulary of English. You will also have access to dedicated laboratories for analysing spoken and written language.

ITALIAN: Studying Italian opens up the language and culture of a major EU country that has played a key role in Europe’s political and artistic development. Glasgow has a long tradition of teaching in Italian studies, supported by excellent library resources in the subject. You will be taught in small groups, mostly by native speakers of Italian, giving you the opportunity to develop a high level of fluency in written and spoken Italian.
