About this course

This course will be based at Herefordshire College, Folly Lane Campus.

The HNC in Mechanical Engineering is primarily an academic, work-related course and is made up of eight units. The course is designed to improve the career prospects of students who are working within the engineering industry and those who wish to broaden their skills set. It will support a career path in mechanical, manufacturing, production, project management and related disciplines.

On successful completion of this course, you can go on to study the Level 5 Higher National Diploma available at the college. The Level 5 course is recognised by higher education providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant undergraduate engineering related courses, for example:

Subjects covered in the course include Mechanical Principles, Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Design, Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines, Engineering Maths, Managing a Professional Engineering Project, Production Engineering for Manufacture, and Quality and Process Improvement.

Studied part-time over two years, students will attend college one day a week for 30 weeks in each year.
