About this course

This four-year MEng in Electronic Engineering with Photonics degree specialises in the design and fabrication of optical fibres, as well as semiconductor light sources and detectors and will give you greater understanding of the practical industrial applications of photonics. The programme includes specialist modules from the University's Optoelectronics Research Centre, one of the world's leading institutes for photonics research. Key areas of study include optical communications, fabrication and microscopy, nanoelectronic and quantum devices, photonic materials including silicon photonics, metamaterials, nanophonics and plasmonics, digital coding and transmission. In your third and fourth years you will also participate in a group project that will aim to solve a real industry problem. This project will test and further develop your technical skills but also will develop your management skills as you will work in a team that needs to deliver a solution to a real engineering problem.
