As part of your course, you’ll study: • The principles of education for democratic citizenship and human rights education • Development and practical implementation of appropriate curricula for education for democratic citizenship • Political and social dimensions of formal education • Culture, identity, diversity, pluralism and intercultural dialogue in education • Student voice, democratic engagement and participation in education • Pedagogies, teaching and assessment methods in citizenship education • Cross-curricular implementation of citizenship education
Transform your potential This course will develop your understanding of the role of education in the development of: • Students’ social awareness • Critical thinking and citizenship identities • Its transformative potential You’ll explore suitable pedagogies for applying the RFCDC and Human Rights Education to your practice. You’ll develop your confidence in using participatory teaching practices and in building whole school approaches for democratic and inclusive education.
Research and teaching expertise This course will be based within the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Childhood, Education & Society. You’ll have the opportunity to join the Centre’s research community to collaborate with students, staff and education experts on projects that have powerful, real-world impact
