About this course

Develop substantial analytical skills and learn to construct complex arguments and communicate these effectively while applying them to a diverse range of economic problems in this degree.

You will also build up a strong financial foundation and the necessary quantitative skills required for real-world decision-making.

The first two years of the degree are focused on building your mathematical and analytical abilities and include mandatory units in micro- and macro-economics, mathematics, statistics and econometrics, and the fundamentals of accounting and finance.

In your final year, you will have the opportunity to carry out research through an applied economics dissertation, alongside a wide range of optional units from the School of Economics, as well as the University of Bristol Business School.

In recent years, economics optional units have included: Economics of Developing Countries, Behavioural Economics, and Data Science. Finance optional units have included: Financial Crises, International Finance, and Portfolio Management.

We offer you the opportunity to extend your degree to four years and spend your third year studying economics in English at a top-ranking university in Europe or farther afield before returning to Bristol for your final year.

This course combines the challenging, broad academic content of a Bristol degree with an overseas dimension that gives you a true awareness of a different culture and reflects the international nature of the economy.
