About this course

Our BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography degree offers you an effective route into the diagnostic radiography profession. Our course has been designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to meet the standards set out by the regulatory and professional bodies, the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the College of Radiographers (COR) respectively. This course will help you develop and demonstrate that you meet the requirements to practise as a diagnostic radiographer within the NHS or other healthcare setting.

Diagnostics is changing in the UK with different demographics, aging populations and diverse needs. The future of radiographers is in integrated multidisciplinary teams focused on local clinics, where a range of services can be spread across departments. Being a diagnostic radiographer is more than learning how to use a certain piece of equipment. We developed this course specifically to help you practice in the modern healthcare environment, based on our extensive experience within professional radiography practice.

Recognised qualification
Every aspect of our course is designed to improve your skills as a professional, with insights driven by experience working in the radiography sector. We have designed our course around the frameworks and best practices published by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the College of Radiographers (COR). The purpose of this course is to ensure you meet the standards and expectations set out by these bodies, with additional knowledge to provide excellent service. On completion of this course you will be eligible to apply for registration as a diagnostic radiographer with the HCPC.

Cutting edge facilities
This is a relatively new course for BNU, and we have invested significant funding into our radiography facilities as we have identified a real demand for qualified radiographers, we have a state of the art fully digital imaging suite with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. This means that the equipment you will be using is at the cutting edge of radiographic imaging and together with attending practice placement, the course provides you with a real-world practice experience. When you leave BNU you will be well prepared to work with any diagnostic radiography equipment that you are expected to use.

What will I study?
Some of the topics you will study include:
- Safe and effective use of diagnostic imaging equipment, considering legal and ethical practices, with first hand hints and tips on how to succeed in the workplace.

- Understand health, disease and disorders relevant to diagnostic radiography.

- Evaluate and understand the role of screening, health promotion and education for healthy living.

- Study quality control, assurance, and audit processes.

- Understand and evaluate technical capabilities, applications and use cases of various imaging modalities.

- Understand the diagnostic techniques of imaging and how to interpret data correctly.

- Evaluate, discuss and come up with new ideas on how to improve practice.

- You will gain the personal and professional confidence, attributes, and technical competence required to build a fulfilling career as a diagnostic radiographer.

What can I do with my degree?
This course will set you up perfectly for a career in diagnostic radiography and for advancing your practice thereafter. You may choose to progress as part of your career development in diagnostic radiography by considering opportunities in research or teaching.
