About this course

Join the search for solutions to crime at one of the UK’s leading centres in the field of criminology.

We were one of the first universities to teach Criminology over 50 years ago. You’ll investigate current criminology issues like artificial intelligence, modern day slavery, and cyber-terrorism alongside research leaders who are still at the forefront today.

Our purpose-built replica Crime Scene Training Facility, field trips to courts, police stations and prisons, and placement opportunities with criminal justice agencies like Humberside Police, will help put the theory into practice and develop the career-ready skills you need to succeed in the industry.

The Foundation Year is an extra year of study at the start of your degree. It’s designed to boost your academic skills and knowledge of your specialist area. When you successfully complete it, you can transfer seamlessly into the full degree programme.

Why study at Hull?

  • Go behind the scenes: Get to grips with collecting evidence in our purpose-built replica Crime Scene Training Facility. We’re one of the few universities in the UK with this facility.

  • Get hands-on experience: Put theory into practice on field trips to courts, police stations and prisons, and get the chance to apply for a placement with Humberside Police.

  • Network with major employers: Meet significant regional and national employers at our annual Careers in Criminal Justice Fair.

    Where could this take me?

The transferable skills you’ll learn on this course open up a broad range of career options in the criminal justice sector. You might support witnesses with the emotional impact of giving evidence or help offenders lead law-abiding lives after release – there are plenty of opportunities to provide support that makes a difference.

Roles within the police force, HM Prison Service, the Probation Service, legal professions, social work, the charity sector or the Civil Service are all within reach with this degree.
