About this course

Why Criminology and Sociology? Our Criminology and Sociology degree will give you the skills you need for a successful and rewarding career, creating safer and stronger communities. You’ll explore the causes and consequences of crime and disorder and how communities respond to the challenges of a changing social world. With a practical focus and opportunities to gain experience working with organisations such as Cheltenham Borough Council, Cheltenham Foodbank and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, our graduates stand out from the competition. There are also opportunities for field studies in UK locations such as Newquay and Belfast, and in international settings such as Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina (additional costs may apply, see course web page for details).

You’ll draw on the expertise of experienced lecturers and optional modules allow you to tailor your study to match your own career ambitions. There are opportunities to investigate mock crime scenes in our new crime scene house, work on real cases as part of our Homicide Research Group, and help the police tackle anti-social behaviour by volunteering for our Student Community Patrol.

Why University of Gloucestershire? At University of Gloucestershire, we’ve been encouraging students to meet every ambition since 1847. Join us and you’ll benefit from our three UoG promises:

UoG Career Promise – if you are not in a job 6 months after graduating, we’ll guarantee you 6 months of free support post-graduation should you need it, followed by the offer of a paid internship and lifetime career coaching* (*eligibility conditions apply). 2.
