About this course

The Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computing for England is a rigorous specialist vocational programme, linked to professional body requirements and with a strong work related emphasis. The programme is a Higher Technical Qualification designed to develop knowledge and skills for a career in computing. The course is designed for you to build your programming and data analysis as well as your academic skills required for a variety of progression routes. Studying the HNC in year 1 and HND in year 2 provides a more open and flexible route towards a full bachelor's degree, where you can secure a higher level qualification at the end of each year as you progress. The course offers you a vocational progression route to higher level study offering an exciting variety of units that focus on key areas of the computing industry.

On the course you will have the opportunity to enhance your computing knowledge and practical skills to enable you to be an effective computing professional and provide a progression route into employment, top-up degree or to higher-level apprenticeship. You will design, develop, test and build applications within a practical space developed to allow you to enhance your understanding.

This two-year higher education course offers both practical and theoretical units combined with an extensive range of teaching and learning methods that enhance the learners' knowledge and skills. You will be taught in a nurturing environment with lots of expert support from our experienced and industry qualified staff who will tutor you on how to use professional tools and programs through a blend of lectures, guest speakers, seminars, case studies as well as individual and group work.
