About this course

Concert Music aims to develop an advanced knowledge of compositional techniques from the 16th to 20th/21st century. Informed by current ideas on the academic study and practical application of composition, your course will be taught by established industry professionals and academics.

We aim to equip you with skills to help you succeed in the fast-paced and ever-changing music industry. You will embrace a range of styles and produce original creative work, as well as completing an assessed rehearsal in which you conduct a vocal ensemble.

This MMus composition aims to give you advanced knowledge of standard compositional techniques from the sixteenth to twenty-first centuries.

In addition to regular lectures and tutorial discussions, you will have one-to-one contact time with professional composers from your chosen field.

Our teaching rooms are equipped with ProTools HD systems, Audient mixing consoles and C24 control surfaces, and lectures involve frequent practical demonstrations and examples.

The course is underpinned by our Composer’s Workshop series, which features regular presentations by a wide range of internationally recognised composers and music specialists. These experts from across the music industry include:
