About this course
Clinical Exercise Physiology focuses on using exercise as medicine for treating and managing health conditions and rehabilitating patients recovering from illness. Accredited by the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS), it is one of only two programmes in the UK with this recognition. Successful completion, including clinical assessments and 140 placement hours, qualifies you to register as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist with AHCS.
You’ll gain an advanced understanding of the pathophysiology and aetiology of various disease states within Clinical Exercise Physiology (e.g., cancer, cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurological conditions). You’ll also learn to support patients in adopting healthier lifestyles and self-managing long-term health conditions.
When you first arrive, you will develop practical skills in disease marker assessment and exercise prescription. You will also gain hands-on experience with advanced physiological and health assessment equipment in our Exercise Physiology Laboratory.
You will:

The MSc programme is full-time and spans three academic trimesters (September to September). The first two trimesters involve classes on Wednesdays and Fridays, with additional support on Thursdays. The third trimester focuses on clinical placement, with scheduling depending on the placement provider. You can complete the course with a postgraduate certificate (PgCert), postgraduate diploma (PgDip), or master’s (MSc) degree.
