About this course
This broad-based Civil Engineering programme provides sound academic training for the professional engineer. Civil engineering graduates are in great demand. It is possible to transfer to the MEng programme at the end of Year Two; otherwise BEng (H200) students will need to complete additional study as a matching section. This might involve an integrated programme of study, such as a master’s degree, and work with an employer.
This MEng programme is accredited by the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
It is also accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer and satisfies the academic requirements for registration as a chartered engineer.
This MENG programme is also accredited by the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
It is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
Work placement/Year in industry - Students are encouraged to gain relevant work experience to enhance their employability by applying for a summer internship or a year placement with an approved company/organisation. The School of Engineering MEng and BEng with a year in industry programmes are available to all* students. Whilst the School of Engineering and the University will provide the necessary support and guidance, it is the responsibility of the student to secure an industrial placement. Applicants should note that industrial placements are highly sought after and competition to be accepted into one can be significant. They therefore cannot be guaranteed. Students who fail to secure a suitable placement offer will transfer back to the standard version of the programme without a year in industry.
*Overseas students are applicable, though restrictions may apply. Read more: https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/studentsupport/international/livingandworking/workingduringyourstudies/
