What is civil engineering? Civil engineering is behind how our modern towns and cities work. Civil engineers design, construct, maintain, upgrade, rehabilitate and repair major infrastructures used by humans while protecting the natural environment. As part of this course, you’ll:

  • Gain a qualification in a Science Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subject so you’re ready to go straight into the profession as a graduate civil engineer

  • Study a technical course that will ensure you have the practical skills to contribute effectively in a wide range of environments in industry

  • Learn from a teaching team with industry expertise in a broad range of subjects including structural engineering, water engineering, geotechnical engineering and highways engineering

  • Take part in practical work and laboratory study using industry standard IT software

  • Be supported in recording your initial professional development for membership of the accrediting institutions, find out more in the accreditation section below

  • Secure work placements during the summer and plan an optional paid placement year in industry with the help of your course team

    Accredited IEng (Full) This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE), the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and the Permanent Way Institution (PWI) on behalf of the Engineering Council as fully satisfying the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer (IEng). A placement or sandwich year will provide you with a great opportunity to gain practical experience in the workplace, which will help you stand out when applying for jobs after you graduate.

The sessions are generally provided by leading industry professionals and will help you choose the area of civil engineering to enter on graduation.
