About this course

The Health Care Foundation Year (Year One) introduces you to essential healthcare concepts and prepares you with the foundational skills needed for progression onto the full degree course (Years Two to Four).

The full course trains you to work in a variety of clinical settings and provide care, support, advice, and education to children and young people from birth to 18 years old, as well as to their families and carers. This programme will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage and promote the health of paediatric patients, whether in a hospital or community setting.

50% of your studies will be conducted in clinical settings, including both the NHS and independent sectors, where you will work closely with experienced practice assessors and supervisors in a supportive environment. You will gain practical experience through diverse placements, including hospitals and community settings, which will help you develop a comprehensive understanding of paediatric nursing.

At the University, you will be welcomed into a relaxed and friendly learning environment with access to a range of facilities. These include formal teaching, group and one-to-one sessions, and state-of-the-art clinical setups with simulators for child, infant, and adult care.

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will earn a degree that qualifies you for registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
