University of Plymouth
Postgraduate MSc (PG) Full-time 1 Year Psychology

About this course

There is an increasing demand for professionals who can apply psychological principles to business challenges, particularly in organisational development, change management, and employee well-being. This is evident in the growing prevalence of job titles such as "Organisational Psychologist" and "Talent Management Consultant." LinkedIn job listings in the UK show a significant number of roles requiring expertise in business psychology, especially in HR, consulting, and organisational development. This trend reflects a rising need for the specialised skills provided by an MSc in Business Psychology.

Industry trends further emphasise this demand, with a heightened focus on employee mental health, resilience, and well-being, particularly post-pandemic. Organisations are recognising the value of business psychologists in designing programmes to enhance workplace satisfaction and productivity. Moreover, companies undergoing digitalisation, mergers, or cultural shifts increasingly seek experts who understand the human aspects of these transformations, further driving demand for business psychology professionals.

Communications functions such as PR, marketing, digital marketing, sales and internal communications have increasingly recognised in the last twenty years that psychology has much to offer. Here, psychology helps those tasked with communicating their organisation's key messages to customers, funders, staff and other stakeholders to construct persuasive messages.

This programme will apply core psychology lessons to a business context, for example in people management and marketing.

The first semester will outline with three modules the core psychology underpinning that students require. The second semester, with two modules, will address how psychology can be applied toa business context. Here students will look at ow psychology is applied in HR/leadership and marketing/communication functions. The all-year Capstone Project will culminate in students conducting research in an area of their own interest.
