About this course

The professionally accredited Business Information Systems degree is designed to develop your knowledge and expertise in the analysis, development and application of socio-technical systems, with a deep understanding of the importance of information technology and computing in society. Organisations are now, more so than ever, reliant on information systems to support day-to-day operations, design solutions to business challenges, and to inform on better decision making. This degree will teach you how to analyse business needs and develop technological solutions to meet these demands.

You will be exposed to industry relevant theories, cutting-edge technology and research and will gain a solid grounding in the theoretical foundations of information, technology and systems applied to modern business environments.

Your learning will combine the latest research at Cardiff Met with professional input from both business and technology experts. You’ll be working on the kind of real-world scenarios that you are likely to meet in the industry. To prepare you further for your future career, the course offers plenty of opportunities to learn by doing. Engage in our research centres and labs, undertake a placement year, or gain additional professional qualifications such as Tableau and Cisco certifications. Once you graduate, you’ll be ready to progress into a successful career as an information technology consultant, business analyst, information systems specialist and more.

This degree has been accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by BCS. An accredited degree entitles you to professional membership of BCS, which is an important part of the criteria for achieving Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status through the Institute. Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.

We offer this programme with two study options. You can choose three years full-time or four years full-time which would include a one-year professional placement before your final year that will give you hands-on experience in a real-life working environment. This year in industry would give you the practical skills that many employers seek, giving you a competitive edge upon graduation.
