About this course
As a result of the programme’s excellence, there is always a high demand for our graduates in Scotland, the wider UK and abroad. Their skills are needed for the analytical building assessment, CAD data recording, design management and improvement of existing properties as well as project management/ contract administration within a variety of construction environments.
Building Surveying is an extremely varied profession, with the main areas covered being design, construction technology, conservation, computer-aided design (CAD), professional practice/studies, building pathology, performance, sustainability and regulation.
At GCU, where the majority of building surveying graduates in Scotland are trained, the emphasis is firmly on practical experience with site visits and ‘live’ project work part of each year of study. Industry experts give guest lectures and you will spend six to eight months on a work placement in Year 3.
There are also opportunities to study abroad. All 2nd year students have the opportunity to undertake a week long study trip with staff to a major European city. Honours graduates can begin working to gain full Membership of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB).
