About this course
Building surveyors are advisors for the property and construction industry, identifying defects and suggesting options for maintenance and repair. They work on the development of new buildings, as well as the restoration of existing properties across residential, commercial, industrial, leisure and heritage projects.Professional Accreditation | Our course is triple accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) — representing your first step towards Chartered status. Live Projects | Apply your learning to the real world, with opportunities to take part in industry-facing projects as part of the course. Previous projects have been set by companies such as Faithful+Gould and Gleeds. Placement Year | Acquire vital skills and experience in the workplace by undertaking a one-year placement on our sandwich route. Previously students have spent their placements at companies such as Baily Garner, Paragon and Innes England. Destination Study Visits | Field trips and study visits are an important part of your learning on this course. Previous students have taken trips to destinations such as Madrid, Milan, Dublin, Malta and Berlin. On this course you'll develop a thorough understanding of architectural styles and influences, the history of buildings and building techniques, the evaluation of building elements, and the performance of building materials.
You'll learn to test and analyse all aspects of building performance, advise on alternative uses of existing buildings, discover how to supervise remediation and refurbishment projects, and how to apply health and safety regulations.
